Yoichi Wada implies XIII release possible in ‘08

Yoichi Wada (President of Square-Enix, Co, Ltd) recently hinted that Final Fantasy XIII could, theoretically be released in 2008. However, it is highly unlikely they will risk this, as they are also releasing the DS title Dragon Quest 9 this year.

Upon merging, Square and Enix unanimously agreed that Final Fantasy was Square’s big draw-card, and Dragon Quest was Enix’.

In Japan, Dragon Quest is actually bigger than Final Fantasy. Hense why Wada decided Dragon Quest 9, the next major release in the series, would be released without any major internal competition to wound sales.

Personally I am led to believe that Final Fantasy XIII will not be released in ‘08, sorry to disappoint fans but this is no way going to happen. After all - where are all the trailers and confirmed characters? Half have still not been created.

I think the potential date of Final Fantasy XIII release will be nearer to 2010. If we are lucky it could hit shop shelves around Christmas 2009 but that’s with Square Enix evading all potential problems.

  2. I like the idea of a female character being the main character.

After all we’ve had so many males - and after a few surely theres only so far you can go without them being too similar.

I know XIII’s character is basically a female version of cloud, but still shes female.

This character gives square enix the chance to lay down the ghost of X-2 saying a female character can take lead. And I am certain this will be one of the greatest if not the greatest Final Fantasy ever.

    Can’t wait!
