Top 5 Hardest Final Fantasy Bosses
-
The Final Fantasy series has produced extraordinary epic boss battles on numerous occasions. One of the most asked questions though is which Boss from the Final Fantasy series is the most differcult? (Final Fantasy VII onwards)
Usually in the Video Game industry the final bosses would naturally be the hardest. However in Final Fantasy this is not the case, with difficulties awaiting around every corner. We’ve decided to take a different angle on this, and choose the hardest bosses compared to the progression completed in the game.
We’ve compiled our top 5 which can be found below. (Contains Spoilers) Do you agree?
- 5. Tiamat (Final Fantasy XII – Henne Mines)
Being a dragon awakened by Fran’s sister, Mjrn, in a Mist-frenzy. Ancient tomes describe it as an anima of the winds, possessed of a violent temperament and destructive power enough to lead the entire world to ruin. There are some who believe that Tiamat was responsible of the decimation of the imperial troop performing experiments on manufactured nethicite, having been awakened by the Stones’ fell cry. Fought at the end of the Henne Mines, Vaan and party traveled there in search of Fran’s sister, Mjrn. When they finally found her, she had become mad with Mist extracted from manufactured nethicite and had awakened Tiamat from its slumber. Tiamat also returns in Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings as a summon.
- 4. Diablos (Final Fantasy VIII – Magic Lamp) Optional
Diablos is an optional boss who becomes a Guardian Force upon defeat. He can be obtained when the party receive the Magical Lamp from Headmaster Cid. The lamp has strict instructions to save before using it. Upon rubbing the lamp, the screen will dissolve and the player will immediately fight Diablos. Upon defeating Diablos, he joins as a Guardian Force. Should the player lose, they will receive a normal Game Over. Diablos’ stats are directly relative to the level of the party members, and as such, vary depending on when the player chooses to challenge him.
- 3. Materia Keeper (Final Fantasy VII – Mt. Nibel)
The Materia Keeper is a boss in Final Fantasy VII. It’s “Hell Combo” makes it a formidable opponent. Defence is often key in trying to beat this boss. Luckily a Save Point exists before this fight.
It is recommemended that you have a Enemy Skill Materia equipped on at least one character for this battle, as the battle with Materia Keeper is the first of only a few chances in the game to learn the enemy skill Trine. The only other enemies to teach Trine are Godo and Stilvas.
If you have recently acquired Vincent and are using him, you may not want to use his Galian Beast limit break as the attack Beast Flare heals the Materia Keeper a great amount.
Towards the end of the battle, Materia Keeper will use Cure 2 to restore its health.
- 2. Demons Gate (Final Fantasy VII – Temple of Ancients)
The Demon’s Gate is a boss from Final Fantasy VII with a number of extremely powerful attacks such as “Demon Rush”. Players need a good number of powerful attacks to eventually take it down.
As this battle takes place in the Temple of the Ancients, you cannot change your party composition; therefore you would have to make do with Cloud, Aeris, and Red XIII in your party. Furthermore, your supply of weapons and items is restricted, although the best materia-compatible weapons and armlets from this area are available.
- 1. Elder Wyrm (Final Fantasy XII – Golmore Jungle)
Guardian beasts of the forests, and the most ancient of the dragons in Ivalice.
Though they perished several thousands of years ago, the living things of the wood grew in them, giving them nourishment and counteracting the corruption of their flesh until they stood once more.
So they share body and soul with the wood, and suffer no intruders within its boundaries.

Have you only played three FF games or something? Where the **** is Penance?

This list is utter crap. What was going on in this persons head? No mention of emerald or ruby weapon? No mention of the unlockable bosses in X that you get from capturing creatures. Honestly I do not understand, Demon’s gate?! really??? You can one hit kill it with a Pheonix down!

I found Seymore and jecht as pain in asses

I can’t say that I agree. Final Fantasy 11 should have the top 5 spots for this category.
There are monsters in this game that require the teamwork of 18+ people. Sometimes a lot more.
Tiamat, Vrta, Jormungand, Fafnir, Nidhogg, Kirin, Khimaria and tons more. I promise you that any single player FF is nothing of a challenge compared to 11’s.

You forgot Warmech, however you spell his name. Hidden boss in FF1. In the original FF1, he was harder than any of the other bosses in the game. That’s if you count him as a boss, like me.

Elder Wyrm … how far into XII are you exactly? o.o Sure its one of the hardest but not #1

This is a sad list. I can name SEVERAL more difficult bosses than that. The Materia Keeper? Come on.
Yiazmat alone trumps any list of the most difficult FF bosses, except when including FFXI mega bosses.

I don’t agree at all!!!! O_o
These fellows are the easiest boss in the series (except for Diablos)!
What about Sephiroth, Yazmat, Der Richter, the Dark Aeons, the Weapons, Seymour???

Wheres Ozma?!! He is unbeatable. Yiazmat? Omega Mark 12? Zodiark? Gilgamesh? This list is utter bull****.

Diablos is a breeze. All you gotta do is cast blind on him then he’ll never physically hit you. Then all he’ll do is cast demi and gravija which can’t kill you
November 5, 2008 at 19:27
Shell and Protect are also very useful against Diablos. After casting them on the party, I used to draw Demi from him and cast it against him. He will heal you with Curaga! Then, when his HP were low, I used to summon a GF after another util he died.
Never tried Blind, thanks for the tip.

I COULD NAME SEVERAL BOSSES HARDER THAN YOUR WHOLE LIST PUT TOGETHER, BUT FOR SOME REASON THE NAME KEFKA JUST CAME TO MIND. IF U TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE DIFFICULTY LVL BACK IN THE DAY,(IM TALKING LIKE FF6/SNES BACK IN THE DAY)THEN I STRONGLY FEEL THT KEFKA SHOULD B ON THIS LIST. IT TOOK ALL OF YOUR TEAMMATES TO DEFEAT HIM.(4 CARACTERS PER GRUP/X-4 GRUPS, THE USE OF ALL THE ESPERS(SUMMONS) AT YOUR DISPOSAL,AND THE FACT THT HE(KEFKA) WAS THE FIRST MULTISCROLLING ENEMY IN THE HISTORY OF GAMING.BY MULTISCROLLING I MEAN( YOU FIRST HAD TO ATK HIM AT HIS FEET B 4 MOVING ON TO HIS TORSO, B 4 YOU COULD REACH THE REST OF HIS ARMS,UPPER BODY,AND HEAD. THTS HOW BIG HE WAS, AND THT STHE KINDA FIEND THTS MISSING FROM THIS LIST.

Are you sure these aren’t the EASIEST FINAL FANTASY BOSSES? Dude I could name so many more tougher bosses than these.
November 11, 2008 at 19:52
hardest boss in ff12 only (the only one I have almost finished)
5) exodus. he has extremly devastating attacks for his level
4) ultima. she is very powerful and can make you undergo 7 different handicaps. who can better?
3) dark master (maître des ténèbres). 5 boss in one. ouch.
2) demonic wall 1. very little time. and X zone
1) Ba gamnan 1st encounter. why do you think you are supposed to flee?
I hesitated to put yiazmat 5th, I’ve fought him for a few hours and it is giving me trouble, but not as much as the ones I’ve just listed.
I haven’t fought omega yet, and I didn’t find zodiark very hard.
November 12, 2008 at 14:44
Weird. I found Zodiark extremely difficult, even at level 99, whereas I regularly annihilate Ba’Gamnan on the first encounter (at which I’m around level 50). I agree with several others in that these bosses are nowhere near the hardest. Elder Wyrm did destroy me a couple of times on my first run of XII, but Ozma definitely deserves to be number one. He took me so long to figure out.

this list is not accurate, i havent seen such a bad list in my life? is the writer joking? screw this.
April 23, 2009 at 21:29
i have to say this is the worst and most inaccurate article i have ever read.maybe you intentionally equipped elemental based armor that gave you disadvantages or wtv i dont know, but you need to actually play the games, not type ‘final fantasy bosses’ on google images, and throw in names and pics
July 2, 2009 at 01:13
this list is crap everyone has pretty much covered all the REAL difficult bosses that came to my mind
