Square Enix currently developing Final Fantasy XI Successor
-
Talk of the company’s post-Final Fantasy XI MMO has been around for years now, but during an address to investors last month, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada re-affirmed that while Final Fantasy XI was still quite profitable for the company, it couldn’t last forever.
Speaking of this “transition”, Wada says that, as Final Fantasy XI winds down:
The question is where do we go from here, and we are currently developing a post-Final Fantasy XI flagship title.
Interesting that he calls it a “flagship” title, suggesting that instead of just switching to a more casual-friendly MMO like the company’s existing Nicotto Town, it’ll be something more substantial.
Final Fantasy XIV anyone?

I have played Final Fantasy for 5 years (730 days playtimes) and the whole series since it first came out. I have 1 word to Square about making another online adventure… NO. I love FFXI a lot but let me tell you there programing and delays and just not delivering expansions that you pay for in box leaves them lacking in my mind to have the facilities to make one of these. To this day they are proud to announce “fixes” for things that where not right in year one.
Square is great but leave the MMO’s out of the series. Most fans do not like FFXI anyways…

Looks like it was written in the stars. The rumours were true – arise Final Fantasy XIV!
