Square Enix announced today that Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories has shipped to North American retailers. Additionally, the release of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days , the first entry in the franchise for Nintendo DS, has been confirmed for a North American release.

With more than 12 million copies shipped worldwide, the Kingdom Hearts franchise is one of the most beloved RPGs in video game history. Disney and Final Fantasy characters unite in a magical game world, engaging players across the globe with its gripping storyline and action-packed gameplay. Fans can now complete the experience with the arrival and announcement of two key pieces in the Kingdom Hearts saga.

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories takes place directly after the ending of the first game, Kingdom Hearts. Sora and his friends Donald, Goofy, and Jiminy Cricket are walking down a winding path when a mysterious man dressed in a black, hooded coat appears. He directs Sora towards a massive fortress called Castle Oblivion and then disappears. When the travelers enter, they find the mysterious figure again. When Sora and his companions attempt to engage the figure, they find that their abilities seem to have no effect. The figure explains that they forgot all of their abilities when they entered the castle. He continues by creating a deck of cards made from Sora’s and his friends’ memories, and tells them that everything they encounter in this castle will be based on their memories. The higher they go, the more memories they will lose in the process.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days revolves around the untold events of Roxas during his time with Organization XIII and will take place during the year Sora was asleep between the events of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II. The game’s prologue will cover the “birth” of Roxas, but the gameplay will start from when he enters the Organization. Roxas’ daily duties with the Organization, his doubts, and his defection will also be included in the story. The initial trailer showed most of the events in Twilight Town. Other worlds, like Wonderland, have also been featured.
