Although it seems extremely far-fetched could the new Final Fantasy installment, XIII, actually be a Final Fantasy VII remake for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360? The speculation supporting this idea can be read following.

Final Fantasy XIII is argubly the hottest anticipated game of the 21st Century. Such so its being dubbed the brand new $billion Final Fantasy VII all due to Kitase visioning XIII to have the same impact VII had on fans hearts.

But to many gamers the similarities between XIII and VII are too close for XIII just to be a new, totally different Final Fantasy. “Lightning”, designed by Tetsuya Normura, has even already been confirmed as a female version of Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII. In XIII she, like Cloud in VII, will have the similar task of saving the Planet from a group of humans on Cocoon for the benefit of others/the Planet, in XIII’s case Pulse.

Lightning = Cloud?

Cocoon, the safe haven in the sky for these humans, is also strikingly similar to Final Fantasy VII’s Shinra Headquaters found on the top of the peasant populated Migar. It was these people Cloud and his group first rebelled against for the Planet Shinra had power over, just like how Cocoon has power over Pulse with the crystals present in XIII.

Lightning isn’t the only character under the spotlight. The unidentified creature (below) from XIII is speculated to be Jenova from VII due to its close similarities. For more details on this creature’s similarities click here.

Its no lie that previously Final Fantasy titles have always had a history of leaving referances to characters and stories from the past titles. For example Final Fantasy X-2 heavily hints that shinra is shinra of shinra corpartion from VII. But really are the links between XIII and VII far too close for them to be different Final Fantasy titles, or is Final Fantasy XIII actually a Final Fantasy VII remake with a twist.
