Final Fantasy VII to hit PS3?

Ever since the famous Playstation 3 technical demo, fans have been asking can a Final fantasy VII remake actually become reality?
That question arises again all due to a certain Tetsuya Nomura droping a vague hint that something big is going down at head office, with this being announced soon at DKΣ3713. You can read what else Nomura said during an interview with Dengeki by clicking here.

Unsurprisingly Final Fantasy VII loyalists have jumped to the conclusion that the surprise is to be a Final Fantasy VII remake. But why?

The Technical Demo was originally made to display the Playstation 3 power

If you were to browse gaming forum to forum you would always come across a thread asking for a Final Fantasy VII remake or reasons why or not this would happen. Even after digestion you would still have no idea whether or not a remake is the right way to go. Some arguements for and against a remake can be found here.

Kitase has previously given his views first hand on a remake. His comments can be read in full here. But Kitase didn’t rule out a remake wasn’t possible because Crisis Core was just thought up in two days. Final Fantasy VII could therefore theorectically be thought up in the same time. The question is when will it be released with Square Enix up to their eye balls in work with Final Fantasy XIII and co.

FinalFantasySeries.net believes the answer to whether a Final Fantasy VII remake is possible can only be decided via the money and time avaliable to such a big task.

A Final Fantasy VII remake will be the biggest thing since sliced bread, fans will flock in far and wide to get their hands on this title. However funds will need to be accumulated for such a big task, which is a reason why a remake cant happen intill Final Fantasy XIII and their other titles are released. Time again is sparse with money so a remake will have to wait unless Square Enix don’t want to disappoint. Then again they could have these major resources no one knows of to create the remake - which is highly unlikely.

Some fans therefore instead believe the “surprise” could infact be another sequel to VII entitled Final Fantasy VII-2.

VII’s sequels have made Final Fantasy VII the largest compilation Square Enix has to offer. Spearheads Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshinori Kitase’s main aim was to make the project Square Enix’s first steps toward … ‘polymorphic content’. As a result they have created well-known properties on several platforms, allowing exposure of the products to as wide an audience as possible.

The current compilation includes games; Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII, Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode: Final Fantasy VII, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and films; Final Fantasy VII Advent Children and Last Order: Final Fantasy VII.

Why a VII-2? - The Final Fantasy VII story is far from closed off due to unclosed plot threads (such as Genesis still running around) clearly being placed down - deliberately. The fans therefore speculate that Final Fantasy VII-2 is the “surprise” and last chapter of the compilation sending off Final Fantasy VII once and for all, that of course ignoring remakes of various sequel titles and the eventual remake of Final Fantasy VII.

Yes Final Fantasy VII Should be remade for PS3!

As an avid fan of the original game released in the mid-late 90’s seeing square come up with releases such as FFVII Advent Childeren has been music to my ears.
None of the other final fantasy games since VII that have been released have quite cut it for me. Even though the final fantasy franchise has never ceased to amaze me on how it constantly has kept re-inventibg itself and using the best state of the art CGI and up to date graphics it just still doesnt have the sole of VII.
VII had an amazing story that you just fell into and felt aprt of and alomst had you in the game itself feeling for the charicters at emotional parts in the game. It is the equivilant for me actually playing and being a charicter of Tolkeins Lord Of The Rings the story is that epic.
Even now how dated the PS1 graphics are on my PS2 in more recent years (after compleating the game on a few occations) the game still keeps me enthrawled by purely how each charicter is built and how the story line grips you not to mention the easy terminoligy of an RPG.
So looking at how dated the graphics are to-date why not a revamp? now bing in my 20’s id more than gladly fork out money 4 a PS3 just to play a remake of the classic FFVII to me its the best computer game ever created (VERY Controversial STATEMENT). With gaming technology so more advanced now more than ten years on from the original release a re vamp could do wonders for this gaming classic and make the story feel even more tangeable.
So please If anyone from Square Enix ever reads this DO IT you guys know how big a following the game has what other FF game has been made into a movie? It would also complete the FFVII franchise and bring it to a final closure.

    REMAKE THE CLASSIC

Hope they do it with every cell in my body. all the original game lacked was graphics. however, a lot of things need to be considered. will they bring back the oldschool battle system, change any aspect of the story, bring back the world map, will u still be able to fight the ruby and emerald weapons, will aerith die (who cares), will there be extended side missions, will you still have yuffie and vincent as secret character. I havent even started yet… A LOT to consider….

So far I’ve heard of NO games that make me want to buy the PS3.
    None.
I’m not even getting it for FFXIII, in fact I’d give up on the entire FF series altogether if the rest of them are going to be on ps3.

    BUT

If a FFVII remake is ever confirmed for the PS3, I’ll buy the best damn PS3 they have in the stores the very second I hear about it.

i think a remake would work well. if the origional had the breath taking cinimatics as advent children and more visual story. it would truly be a masterpiece.
but with all the blood in the first game, would that give ff7-2 a higher esrb rating?

FF VII was one of the finest games that the old PS1 had to offer. Many a day I spent engrossed in the story-line, and the brilliant side missions. I still haven’t completed the game (I’m just going into the Crater, nearly there!), after owning it for 10 years.

A FF VII-2 would be epic, I’d much prefer to see that rather than a PS3 remake with better graphics. The game doesn’t need better graphics, the old style ones give the game half of it’s charm in my opinion. It doesn’t need new flashy graphics to be enjoyed. But a sequel would be brilliant, and I would definitely queue for that!

I wish all you FF7 addicts would give it a break already.

FF7 is already a over-hyped, over-squealed and under-original set of games in RPG history.

Just leave this set of games in the grave where it belongs, TYVM.

The simple facts are it DON’T DESERVE to be remade and definitely don’t deserve a bloody sequel. If any game does deserve one its FFIX, imo.

I agree with Anon, except I do own a ps3, I only have one game so far as there is NOTHING out that has even peaked my interest, Im not even that fussed about FFXIII, unfortunatly FF has gone away from what made them so enjoyable! (to me anyway)

But a FF7 remake for PS3 would be amazing, I would pay any amount of money for it! a sequel would be good also but a full remake would be a goldmine for Square, and give Sony the extra push it needs to sell PS3’s

I think bringing the title back is a great idea, so long as its done with the “M” rating (as stated in the side article). Regardless, if the game had an “M” rating or not, I believe there’s a big enough fan base to make TONS of profit.

I know this would never happen, but I think it would be really really cool if they went all out with the remake, and included (or remade) all of the other small games that go with the series and had a “special addition” where every game would be in one package. That way you could play through the entire series on one console. Like I said, it’ll never happen.

To MOST HATED: Did you play the damn game? Did you understand the plot? You must not have because if you did, you would see that the story alone is great. Not to mention the materia system was extremely fun in my oppinion. I’m on board with you as far as the sequal goes anyway. I really don’t think we need to see an FFVII-2.

Hmm I personally believe this has to be done on PS3, perhaps even a Xbox 360, for the remake to have the visuals.
